Mr. Ames,
I can't even begin to tell you how much you've meant to me over the years. Role model, mentor, and the gold standard by which I judge all other singers. To me you're the epitomy of everything fine that a person can be, and I thank you for giving me something incalculable - the knowledge that human dignity is alive and well. 35 years worth of sighs and romantic reverie on my part have simply been the icing on the cake! From a lifelong admirer, Terri Hull

Hello, Mr.Ames,
It is great to be able to say "Thank You" for the songs that I play daily and which always bring great enjoyment. Words cannot adequately express the enjoyment that your musical and acting talents have provided, and continue to provide, to me and many others. Since the days when you and your brothers sang together to the present, I have been and will continue to be a fan,

Dear Mr. Ames,
When I was a child I suffered things that little girl's shouldn't have to endure. My life seemed hopeless, my heart was in darkness, and thoughts of suicide became my constant companion. But,
God used Mingo and your wonderful comforting voice and your good heart to show me a true champion for womankind. You made a difference in my life, God gave me light through you and that gave me something special to look forward to. As a teen I saw you on stage five times. The first time you walked out onto the stage was a magical moment for me and time seemed to stand still, but it was afterwards when you signed your picture and called me "sweet" that validated my very existance. Thank you for being my hero. My heart is devoted to a man I met briefly in passing, but my heart is true. Mr. Ames, you're more than just an entertainer and I would be honored to name you among my friends. I will never forget you. May God always bless you. Pamela

Dear Mr. Ames,

First let me wish you a very special Happy 80th Birthday this July 9th. You are a very young looking 80. The years have been good to you, still handsome, charming, and a voice that cradles every note with warmth and emotion. It only took me forty years, but I finally found that pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow and that is your music. Whether it be your own songs or those wonderful songs with Gene, Vic, and Joe. Treasures every one of them. You craft a song like you craft every role you ever performed on TV, Film, or the Stage. I speak for many when I say thank you for the gift of Mingo and for the gift of music. You still have lots and lots of fans out there. My very best to you and to your family, Susie Coffman

Dear Mr. Ames,
I have appreciated you since I was twelve years old. There is a warmth that eminates from you, and it is obvious in your voice when you sing. It is obvious in the characters you create on stage and on television. Though the characters on the "Daniel Boone" series were not fully developed, you managed to make Mingo a man that appealed to millions, myself included. Everyone that I have met who has had contact with you describes you as kind and gracious. One of my greatest regrets is that I was never able to meet you or receive an autograph from you. My family just didn't approve of such things. The world would be greatly improved if every public person followed your example. Thank you very much.
Devoted for many years,Cynthia Christiansen

Greetings,

Oh my..I'm typing and I feel as giddy and timid as though I was standing before you.

Please allow me to say I am a fan. Plain and simple. Your work has alway been fantastic, and a pleasure to watch/listen. I just started watching the Daniel Boone re-runs, and have purchased the DVDs. So I suppose that makes me a next generation fan.

No more rambling. Happy belated birthday...many happy returns of the day.

I made use of your characters' names 'CaraMingo'/'TaraMingo. They are my e-mail address and online handle respectively.

I send the warmest regards to you and your family.

Best of all things to you...

Dear Mr. Ames,

Although I haven’t been around long enough to be able to accurately tell the difference in the styles of music or theatrics, I can still sense the change that has taken place over a few wary years. I’ve always had an interest in music and especially in dramatics. I’m greatly influenced with classical music as I’ve learned to appreciate it through some thoughtful considerations. Hard rock and other terrible music has never found its way into my list of favorites. Yes, there are some songs that I consider wonderful such as some of Josh Groban’s mellow music. However, most songs create excitement and unnatural feelings which, consequently, makes me uneasy when I hear them. When I first heard your music (I don’t remember if it was My Cup Runneth Over or I Believe on the internet), peaceful thoughts filled my mind. I had never thought much of Oldies music; Pop music seemed to fit my style. However, for some reason, either the way the music played, the words or your voice (or a combination) touched a string in my heart that has been playing ever since I first heard word few words sung. The variety of songs is great; I’m just confused about one song that has been titled Cast Your Fate to the Wind. Although I haven’t yet heard every single one of your songs, I am hoping that I’ll eventually have them all.
Perhaps it’s because I miss my grandparents so much that I am drawn to the 60’s era. I see a color, hear a tune, see a style of dress, that was very popular in the late 1900’s, and it attracts me. I don’t know why, but I miss many things that was around during those gone days. The media seemed to center around morals and conveyed conservative ideas-very unlike the modern media today. Nearly every one of your songs had some lesson behind it. Not only that, but many of them even boldly mentioned God or Jesus with not a trace of mockery. As in one song called The Lord’s Prayer, I recognized it to be sung out of the old King James Version. If only there were more people who were unashamed to use His name in a modest manner.
I can’t express how much I enjoy your character portrayed as Mingo. I like the natural expressions and honesty conveyed in every way as if nothing was meant to be covered up. If only I were in my 50’s, than I would’ve probably had a chance to see the performances and maybe sing along in the crowd (I’ve never taken voice lessons, but singing is very fun indeed).
I am very grateful to you for being the unique person God has made you to be, and although I may never have the opportunity to meet you, I just want to take some time to let you know my gratitude. It seems strange for a teen to like “old fashioned stuff”, but I suppose I’m just simply a daughter of nostalgia. May the Lord bless you and your efforts.
Pardon me for making such a lengthy letter. :)

Sincerely,
Inahlee

P.S. Happy early birthday!

2 Peter 1: 5-7
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

Shalom Mr. Ames,
I've been a fan since I was a teenager back in the 1960's. You're voice is easy to understand without my hearing aids on.
I saw you at the Nugget in Sparks, Nevada in March 1976. It was the highlight of the winter term at the University of California, Davis.
I have the condition cerebral palsy. I walked until 1985. In 1990 I had a hip replacement that went bad. Now I live with constant pain.
I also keep as busy as I can.
I listen to the songs you sing to relax. I also use it to get in the mood for writing a romantic mystery. I finished it in about two months. Now all I have to do is find a publisher. There is no sex in it. The main character is disabled. I know I'm not politically correct. But, I've been called crippled, handicapped, physically challenged, and the worse term is the one they're now I despise "developmentally disabled". I have a master's degree from the University of Oregon. I think the professional think up these terms to get research money.
I've been watching the Daniel Boone series just to see you in action.
I wish you a happy 80th birthday in eight days.
Eight years ago I organized a surprise party my mother's eightieth birthday. I had to do it long distance. I live in Oregon and the party was in California. My six siblings helped in one way or another. But it was up to me to do all the planning, buying, invitations and getting her to the party on time. I told a little white lie to get her to go to the place. I pulled it off and she was surprised.
Well, I'm sorry I got a little long winded.
One of your fans, Catherine Southward

I have been a fan of your music and acting since I was a teen in the '60s and you are still by far my favorite because you are simply the best. My only regret is never having the opportunity to see and hear you in person.
Since I have the day off, I am celebrating your birthday by playing your cd's and lp's. What a treat!

Mr. Ames, I have always wished you were my Dad. I grew up in a lonely home. At first I was sent to live with relatives then I was sent to live with my Mum who worked very long days, gone from early mornings to late nights. As an original latch-key-kid I thought it normal to be alone most of the time. When I found you on TV I thought I had found a sole mate. On Daniel Boone you were always alone. Then when I learned and heard of your singing and that you had children how I wished to be one of them. I so wanted to please you. I tried to learn as much as I could, keep The Commandments, have integrity and morals. I wanted you to be proud of me. Your songs, mannerisms, caring; the letters you wrote to me when I was little always arrived at my most down times to lift me up. The Lord used you to help me. I truly wish you all the happiness, joy, love and peace on this your special day and everyday. THANK YOU so much for being you and THANK GOD for sending you to all of us, your fans.

Hello Mr. Ames
Happy belated birthday! You are eighty years young, and I wish you many, many more years of health and entertaining others...

Recently I read an article you gave several years ago to an entertainment magazine, describing your life growing up. Life was difficult for you and your family, having to move numerous times and even being in the hospital as a child because of malnutrition. It was amazing to see how you overcame that to be the success you are...
And in closing, thanks for bringing dignity and respect for the role of the Cherokee through Mingo...the writers and producers conjured him up, but you brought him to life, and made it cool to be a Native American!

Mr. Ames,

I want to thank you for the wonderful character of "Mingo." I'm not overstating the case to say that it was one of the most memorable roles in all of television--one of dignity, bravery, and eloquence, as well being the perfect foil for Fess Parker, creating a very poignant and moving TV friendship. It was very easy to forget that you were "acting." Anyway, my family members are huge fans of the series, having discovered it last year. My 6-year old son John loves "Mingo," and has dictated to me his comments below. Thank you for your acting legacy, and happy birthday!

May the love of Christ be upon you,

Pastor Stephen Michaud

I was born nov 8 1960. So I grew up watching Daniel Boone with Ed Ames. He was my favorite guy- and I always wanted to grow up and marry Mingo- heehee. I also knew he was a great singer as my sister is 12 years older, so she informed me and educated me to this fact. I look at his Bio and see he is a man of many talents who never let any dreams go by with out his best effort (as much as I can see- anyway). Thanks Mr. Ames for being part of my love of life, music and nature. Your among the best life has to offer! Julia in Bailey CO (formally of Tallahassee FL).

Dear Ed,

You have been my favorite singer since the 1950's when I first heard you. I just had a guest who brought me your "The Best of Ed Ames" CD as a hostess gift. I could have not been more pleased, and I (and everyone else in the house) have been listening to you since Thursday evening. What a joy! My husband asked me if I had been an Elvis fan. I told him only those who had not "found" you needed Elvis or Ricky Nelson.

Thanks ---

There was a local radio station in Easton, PA. that played 50s-60s music and I always loved your songs. They sold the radio station.
